5 Reasons Why Women Wear Weaves & Wigs

Hi Queens. Believe it or not, there are women who have never worn a weave or don’t even know what that means,  Yep...it’s a thing.  That’s the beauty about hair.  You can be so creative, change your hair to match your unique style or your mood.  If you have never worn a weave before and are curious about WHY women wear weaves and why you might even wear one, then stay tuned because this ish right here….is for you.

How’s the week going?  Has it been a rough one?  You know...it always gets better & you got this.  So let’s talk about something a little light and fun today.  The wonderful world of all things WEAVES!  OK!  Maybe this topic isn’t so light.  Especially if you are new to this.  I get a lot of questions about human hair bundles and weaves and I can usually tell by the type of question if the person is a newbie.  This is one of the reasons why I created A Queendom actually.  To help clear up confusion and cut out some of the noise in the human hair industry and with women products in general.  The things we do to make sure we have a tight and nice looking weave.  Whether it’s for date night, da gram, or just for you weaves is just one of the MANY protective styles you can whip up to help you achieve your look.  So, why do you, me or any of us wear weaves…..

  • Reason #1 - Protective Style:  Women lose about 125 Hair Follicles each day.  Protecting your hair will give your hair follicles a chance to relax, relate, release, and your hair strands the chance to get a little stronger
  • Reason #2 - Switch Things Up:  We change our hair styles a lot and weaves are a great way to quickly switch things up.  Weaves are a great way to change your look based on your needs and lifestyle.  You may not want to wear a wig in the summer because of the “hotness” but a weave can achieve the same look without the added heat.  Weaves also let you TRY a hairstyle before you commit (for all the committal phobes).  Say you always wanted to wear a short style or be a redhead.  Poof, with a weave (or wig) you can try the style first without the long term commitment.
  • Reason #3 - Thinning or hair loss:  21 Million Women suffer from some form of hair loss or thinning.  Hair weaves do a great job of hiding and covering any hair loss, balding or thinning.
  • Reason #4 - To Save Time:  Who has a ton of time on their hands (said no one ever).  30 - 45 minutes is the average time we spend on our hair in a day.  Quality Loose Wave or Curly human hair bundles are great wake up and go options.  These two types of hair weave textures don’t require a lot of time to style and are easy to maintain with the right products.  With a human hair weave, you can go swimming, workout, and work up a sweat ALL without having to worry about sweating out your style and spending extra time on restyling your hair….because really...who has time for that?
  • Reason #5 - Because Weaves can be Cost Effective:  Women are spending on average $2,500 a year on hair care (look there are some women who are dropping this much on one style - they are the exception).  A human hair weave gets you some pretty good bang for your buck.  (I am frugal - don’t judge me - my sister calls me cheap - but don’t listen to her - she doesn’t know any better).  The cost of a sew-in and the human hair bundles, on average can run you about $300 - $400 (Ladies - this is just an average)  (on screen = RVA - average install is $150,  A Queendom Bundles on average $200 (for 3 bundles), which may seem expensive but let’s have fun with some math shall we?  If you pay $350 for the sewin and human hair, and leave the sew-in installed for 8 - 10 weeks, that is about $35 per week OR $5 a day.  Some women are spending $100 on their hair at salons each week.  Not too bad huh?

Okay. If you are a newbie to the weave world, I hope you can now go forth with confidence knowing how and why WEAVES can fit into your hair routine.  If you are a triple OG Weave Warrior, then I hope I was able to share with you something new.
