Human Hair Tips: 5 Questions to Ask Your Hair Stylist Before Your Next Human Hair Install
There's nothing like getting your hair done. And when I say that, I mean the good and the bad. We love the feeling of having a fresh hair do - so much so, you don't even be trying to sleep on your hair to try to keep it looking fresh as long as possible. But we also know that we have to do a lot of planning to get our human hair bundles or human hair wig installed. We have to plan around or work schedule, take time off, get a babysitter and oh yea, find a weavologist to bring your hair vision to life. After going through ALL of this, the last thing you want to do is show up to your hair appointment and your weavologist looks at your human hair extensions or wig and say, "Girl, I can't do anything with this..." "Or I can't do your hair, you have too much product in it..." You do NOT have time for that. To prevent this from happening to you, stay tuned for 5 Questions you should ask your weavologist before your next human hair install.
Working with and finding the right weavologist for what you need and your budget can be tricky, so when you find THE ONE, make sure you hold on to them tight. I mean finding a talented and reliable weavologist is like trying to find a unicorn wearing a dress. At least in my experience, you may have to (unfortunately) go through some bad ones to get to the great ones.
To make it easier on everyone, here are 5 questions you should ask your weavologist before you schedule your appointment with them.
Usually, most weavologist will provide their clients with a list of things you need to do before you book with them. Sometimes they will let you know about their cancellation policy, late policy, and hair requirements. But what if your weavoligist doesn't? That's ok because we have you covered with these 5 questions you should ask your weavologist before your next human hair install.
- What type of lace will you work with? - I can't tell you how many times I have scrolled through Instagram or Google looking for a weavologist and I see something like this - "No Brown Lace." There isn't anything wrong with brown lace. So, why do weavologist say "No Brown Lace?" There are a few reasons, one is using Transparent or HD Lace Wigs helps your beautician save time. With Brown Lace, they may have to bleach it or dye it to get the lace to blend better with your scalp. Another reason is, some hairstylist sell their own hair. By having certain requirements on the type of hair or lace, it makes it easier for them to sell their hair to you. So it's not about the quality, it is more about the finished look. If you like Brown Lace and the weavologist you are chatting with doesn't work with Brown Lace, then find another one.
- Do you need my human hair bundles, closure, frontal, or wig before the install? - This is an important question to ask and if you don't get this answered by your weavologist then this could result in you having to reschedule your hair appointment and no one wants that. Some weavologist will want you to drop off your human hair extensions, closure or human hair wig 2- 5 days before your appointment. One reason is if you are getting your hair dyed, they will need time to dye or bleach your bundles or wig. The other reason is that they may need to pluck the hair line of your human hair closure, frontal or wig. This will save you time when it is time to get your hair did.
- Do I need to wash my hair before or do you prefer to wash my hair? - Believe it or not, some hair stylist prefer to wash your hair instead of you showing up with your hair already washed. This way, they know your hair is clean and they can use recommended products on your that support your hair goals. If they prefer to wash your hair, ask them if there is a charge for them to wash your hair. If you will need to wash your hair before the hair install, make sure you wash it the night before and do not put any product in it.
- Do you work with thinning edges, or hair loss? - This is an important question to ask and will help you decide if a weavologist is right for you. Thinning edges and thin hair is a reality for a lot of us. You want to make sure you work with someone who will work with your hair situation. Some weavologist will not work with your hair if your edges are not strong because they may not want the liability. Others will, but they many not be experts in dealing and styling hair where the edges are thin or there is hair loss.
- How many human hair bundles are required for my hairstyle? - This could of course vary depending on the type of hair you purchase. For example, A Queendom's Bundles are thick and full and we always weight them so that you know your human hair bundles are at least 100 grams. Some weavologist will require a certain number of human hair bundles for human hair closures or if you are using a human hair frontal. I have seen this human hair bundle requirement range any where 3 - 5 bundles. But this also depends on the size of your head. I can get away with two human hair bundles with a frontal because I have a small head. Also, if you are using longer bundles, some weavologist will require a certain number of bundles if you are using longer bundles. Some say 4 - 5 bundles are required if you are using bundles that are 22" or longer.
