Protect Your Hair & Your Hair Weave With These 3 Simple Tips

So you have spent a few hundred bucks on your fabulous sew-in (you look beautiful by the way).  Now, you want to make sure you get the most out of your protective style while protecting and nurturing your own natural beauty.  It is always interesting to me when I "see" or "read" that hair bundles can last up to 2 to 3 years.  This maybe true in some cases, but in most cases, how long your human hair bundles will last depends not just on the quality but mainly on how well you care for your hair bundles.  You can't just have the human hair bundles sewn in, comb your weave once a week or never wash them and THINK your human hair bundles are going to last 10 years.  Now, that's not how this works.  I know it's a little work and may add a few more minutes to your morning or night hair routine, but TRUST me, in the long run, caring for your hair weave and your natural hair will pay off.  Don't know where to start?  Let's keep it simple.  Here are 3 simple tips to help you protect your hair and care for your human hair weave.

1.  Protect Yo' Scalp - You got your sew in weave to protect your natural hair, give it a break, and help it grow.  Don't forget to care for you.  I have fallen victim to this too many times.  Because of the convenience a human hair weave can provide, I get up in the morning, comb, and go...forgetting to take care of my own natural hair.  Then I wonder why, when I take my weave out, my hair is breaking and brittle...smh.  Grease your scalp, condition your hair several times a week with a leave in conditioner, and treat your edges.

Using oil on your scalp is a great way to give your roots and beautiful hair what it needs to stay strong and healthy.

2.  Co-Wash Weekly - The great thing about wearing human hair vs. synthetic hair is, you can treat it just like your hair.  You can get it wet, which means, YEP, you guessed it...you can wash and condition it.  In fact, conditioning your human hair bundles helps keep them moisturized, soft, and helps reduce frizzing and tangling.  The other benefit is when you co-wash your weave, you are also co-washing your hair.  It's a win-win all the way around.

Washing and Co-Washing Your Hair is Important for Both Your Natural Hair and Your Human Hair Bundles

3.  Know When to Say When - We all want to get the most out of our dollar. You work hard for everything you have and will continue to work hard for everything you need and want. But sometimes you have to know when to say when.  Meaning, know when to take out your human hair bundles.  I know you may feel like you are not getting your money's worth if you leave your hair in for 4 weeks.  I get it. But your hair is important.  Leaving your bundles in or human hair wig installed too long will DAMAGE your hair.  If you are using a 100% human hair closure or frontal, make sure you see your weavologist for maintenance or remove the closure to really wash and condition your hair.  I highly recommend NOT keeping your human hair extensions or human hair wig installed any longer than 8 weeks.  Your hair will thank you for it.

I know that was a lot but I hope these 3 simple tips to help you protect your natural wear while wearing your human hair weaves or human hair wig can help you reach your #hairgoals.
